Our Impact
Bringing the Community together to help each other.
We have started 2023 with our busiest months ever and have decided that we must make changes to our service if we are to survive these increases in demand.
In January 2022 we provided food to 61 households, February 2022 it was 57 households. Each household received an average of 20 items including food and toiletries which equated to roughly 2,000 items of food over that two month period. Zero working families, zero retired people and under 100 pets.
In January 2023 we provided food to 577 households and 566 in February. This equated to roughly 20,000 items!!!! 25% working families, 15% retired people and over 400 pets!
Whilst our food donations are high and our supporters are incredibly generous, we cannot sustain this going forward, therefore changes need to be made.
From 1st April we will no longer be providing an extensive range of food items in our free Pantry and the service will look as follows.
5 item Breakfast Packs : choose from bread, cereal, breakfast bars, milk, juice, beans, jam or spreads.
These packs should provide a family with 3-5 days breakfasts. NO CHARGE
Lunch in the Chatty Cafe : a free hot 2 course lunch will be offered to anyone sitting in our cafe (takeaway not available) NO CHARGE
Dinner : a choice of one free takeaway homemade meal will be available to everyone attending in person. NO CHARGE
(Multiple meals are available to takeaway depending on availability and a donation will be required)
With there being an increase locally in other food banks, pantries, warm hubs, drop in cafes there really is no longer a shortage of places for people to go to collect food parcels and we want to concentrate to encouraging people to come and socialise in OKFP Hub, collect a Breakfast Pack, enjoy sitting down for a free lunch in our Chatty Cafe and takeaway a dinner portion to enjoy at home.
Miscellaneous food items will be available to anyone not wishing to take the 5 item breakfast park. Toiletries, baby items and pet food will continue to be offered dependent on stock levels and of course our free surplus food waste items will be readily available daily in addition to everything else. NO CHARGE
In 2020 when we started our project, OKFP stood for Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels.
In 2022 we implemented changes and OKFP stood for Old Kilpatrick Food Pantry.
This year, OKFP will stand for Old Kilpatrick Food Provision.
Our aims and objectives as a Registered Charity SC050874 remain as important to us now as they were when we started : ‘Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels will strive to alleviate food poverty and tackle social isolation in our Community’
The next couple of weeks of March will be a transitional period at OKFP as we gently introduce the changes to our service and we ask for your support and patience with our volunteers and employees who are on hand to help you when you visit.
Please continue to support us – we are nothing without your help
